Biodiversity Action Plan
The Parish Council has adopted a Biodiversity Action Plan and its progress will be a standard item of report to all Parish Council meetings. A major item of the Plan is the Council’s decision to declare both villages ‘Wildlife Friendly Villages’ To this end we have prepared a leaflet which has been delivered to every house suggesting how everyone can help biodiversity. Managing Council Land for Nature
The Parish Council supports Waveney Volunteers for Nature (WVfN) which manages the two commons in Brockdish on behalf of the Council. WVfN was formed in October 2022 following an initiative by the Conservation Volunteers and has the aim of improving wildlife and access to open land. Since that time activities have broadened to working with schools, churches and an allotment association. WVfN supported by Parish and District Councils is currently lobbying the County Council to release the old school playing field in Brockdish to become an ‘open air classroom’ and a nature reserve.
Rescue our River
The most critical biodiversity problem in the Parish is pollution of the River Waveney and its tributaries. There has been a serious deterioration in recent years with a consequent effect on wildlife affecting the whole food chain. Concerted effort by authorities in the Waveney Valley is necessary to rescue the river.
