Magpies Meadow

Harleston Greenspace CIC was set up as a new community group to promote nature recovery and provide public amenity greenspace to encourage engagement with nature and a healthy lifestyle. It was partially funded by South Norfolk District Council.

The Vision

The first stage of the design includes a mini forest, carefully managed areas for nature, bird, bat, and owl boxes, bug houses and log piles, rainwater harvesting, and a circular walk with information boards and resting spots. We intend to hold sessions to involve the community and will provide regular updates.

From managing the meadow to fundraising, hopefully there is an opportunity for everyone.

Working Together

We are working with representatives from many environmental groups who will bring their knowledge and expertise to the project. Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Suffolk Wildlife Trust, Tyndall Centre at University of East Anglia, Waveney Volunteers for Nature, Waveney Bird Club, Norfolk Ponds Project, and The Conservation Volunteers are part of the collective. The plans have the support of the Sancroft Academy, South Norfolk Council, and Adrian Ramsey the MP for Waveney Valley.

Sponsorship and Support

The forest has been divided into What 3 Word squares each measuring 3m x3m. These were available for sponsorship for only £100 each. All 24 available squares have been snapped up. We held a social evening on 19 February to publicly thank our kind sponsors.

The sponsorship concept has been so successful that it is under consideration for promotion to other nature conservation sites by South Norfolk Council.
