Provide Safe Crossings

Updated: Jun 21, 2024

Areas where accident rates are highest could benefit from a new sign which warns of hazards due to animals in the road.

The government operates a road safety scheme with a traffic sign, featuring a hedgehog. It warns road users of hazards due to animals in the road ahead and should be placed in areas where accident rates are highest.

It is up to local authorities and animal welfare groups to identify accident and wildlife hotspots where the sign should be located. It is really up to us to identify the spots and then pressure our councils to listen and act.

The road sign features a hedgehog. More information about hedgehog welfare can be found at Hedgehog Street, a a registered charity which promotes and encourages the welfare of our hedgehogs.
